A free poker bankroll is probably the closes thing you'll ever get to free money. It's really easy to get and the bankroll is usually pretty significant. Most offers give $100 in free money!!
So how does this work? Why would anyone ever want to give away free money? To understand this you must know how affiliate programs work. Online poker rooms have programs that reward those who refer new players. The affiliate can promote the poker room through word of mouth, a web site or any other way. When a new player is referred to the poker room, the affiliate can earn money for the referral. There are usually 2 payment structures: a cost per acquisition (CPA) and a revenue share model. With CPA, the affiliate is paid a fixed amount for a new player who makes a deposit. With revenue share, the affiliate earns a percentage of the revenue generated by the player.
The free bankroll offers are therefore an extra incentive to attract new players. The sites that offer the free money want to send new players to the poker room. To get the bankroll, the player needs to sign up using a special bonus code that tracks his/her account to the affiliate. That is why these offers usually have very precise procedures that you must follow. The affiliate wants to make sure you are tracked to his account and that you are not trying to get the free money more than once.
Free poker bankrolls are really a win-win deal. The affiliate gets a new player that will generate some revenue, and you get some free money to get started at the poker room! The amount of the bankroll is usually split into 2 bonuses: an initial bonus that you get right away after signing up, and another bonus that you must earn by accumulating points or playing a certain amount of hands.
IPM currently has up to $680 in free bankroll offers! The free money is available to new players at CD Poker ($130), Absolute Poker ($100), Ultimate Bet ($100), Full Tilt Poker ($100), Titan Poker ($100) and Party Poker ($150).

I prefer UB over AP since UB has minimum cashout $50 whereas AP is $100 even though both sites can transfer to each other which is $50 minimum transfer.
There will be a 2 million guarantee tournament at Party Poker in 2 days, September 29 2008.
It is free to enter.
